ALTERNATE PLUGGING CRITERIA

INETEC is performing all necessary investigations to develop alternate plugging criteria for PWR and WWER steam generator tubes. For such purpose INETEC is using deterministic, as well as, probabilistic approach.

Development of Alternate Plugging Criteria

  • Development of alternate plugging criteria for particular NPP units on the basis of Eddy Current databases, metallographic investigations and destructive examinations of pulled tubes and tubes with artificial flaws, etc. in accordance with latest world experience.
  • Assistance in establishing programs and methods for laboratory examinations of pulled tubes. It covers producing of working procedures, surveillance and control of laboratory tests etc.
  • Comparison of destructive data bases with eddy current results.
  • Determination of EC measurement uncertainty.
  • Determination of progression rate of EC parameters (depth, volume, length, width) between inspections.
  • Use of FEM and fracture mechanics in conjunction with EC data to calculate stresses, deformations and eventual leakage rates on steam generator tubes with various types of flaws.
  • Performance of various statistic analysis of EC data bases including calculation of progression rates and prediction analysis.
  • Risk assessment of steam generator tube leakage and tube rupture based on Monte Carlo method.
  • Justification of developed alternate plugging criteria through series of safety analysis.
  • Presentation of alternate plugging criteria to regulatory body/body.
  •   Benefits of alternate plugging criteria are:
    o Reducing the number of installed plugs and sleeves per outage
    o Higher production level untill steam generator removal
    o Prolongation  of steam generators life time
    o Avoiding additional licensing of power rate
